Breastival

Our Story

Breastival is an extraordinary fundraising event created to support Breast Cancer Now, born out of one woman’s personal battle and determination to make a difference.

In early 2020, Kate Miles, a mother and teacher from Buckinghamshire, was diagnosed with secondary, stage 4 breast cancer. Rather than letting the diagnosis define her, Kate channelled her energy into raising awareness and funds to support breast cancer research.

The idea for Breastival was sparked on the way back from a Pink Ribbon Walk, when Kate, already having raised over £20,000 for Breast Cancer Now, felt inspired to do even more. With the help of her close friends, Victoria Doran and Philippa Honosutomo, she envisioned a party that would bring people together, not only to have fun but also to contribute to a cause that impacts so many lives.

Our very first Breastival was held at Halton Tennis Club, and became a night to remember, featuring raffles, a hog roast, a silent auction, and a dress code of glamour with a touch of pink. The event was a tremendous success, with 150 guests attending and raising over £8,000. Our last two Breastival events have been held at Chiltern Forest Golf Club and each had 170 guests in attendance and each raised just over £12,000, taking fundraising for this event to just over £32,000 so far!

Breastival is more than just a party—it’s a celebration of life, community, and the power of collective action. It’s a way for people to come together, show support, and raise funds for critical breast cancer research, including risk prevention, early detection, treatment, and secondary breast cancer.

Kate’s passion for the cause is driven by her personal experience with the disease. Thanks to advances in treatments, she has been able to maintain her quality of life, moving from lengthy infusions to quicker, more manageable injections. But the fight is far from over. Kate is committed to continuing her fundraising efforts and she encourages others to join her in supporting Breast Cancer Now’s life-saving research.

Breastival is a testament to the strength of community and the difference we can make when we come together for a cause. Whether you attend the event, donate, or simply spread the word, every bit of support helps drive forward the mission to ensure that everyone diagnosed with breast cancer can live—and live well.

Join us at Breastival ‘26 and be part of something truly special. Together, we can make a lasting impact. Ticket details coming soon.

Breast Cancer Now

The reason we are so passionate about raising money for Breast Cancer Now is that cancer doesn’t discriminate, it has no rules, and it ruins lives. We need to understand more about it and find ways to stop it, so that fewer people are affected and many more survive. The only way to do this is through research, and that takes a lot of money and time; something some of us don’t have.

Breast Cancer Now have invested over £299 million in pioneering breast cancer research. Yet, we know there is still more to be done. Their ongoing mission is to not only reduce the number of breast cancer diagnoses through early detection but also to extend lives and improve the quality of life for those affected by this disease.

Their vision is bold: by 2050, they want everyone diagnosed with breast cancer to live and be supported to live well. They are dedicated to making this vision a reality through continuous research, advocacy, and support for all those impacted by breast cancer. Together, we believe we can create a future where breast cancer no longer takes lives too soon.

There are many ways that our fundraising contributes to their vision…

  • £50 could bring one of their expert speakers to a workplace or community group to talk about breast awareness. Knowing the signs and symptoms of breast cancer can encourage people to check their breasts regularly and report any new or unusual changes to a GP.

  • £100 could pay for 1 person to go to Living with Secondary Breast Cancer. These group sessions are a space for people with incurable secondary breast cancer. They'll get expert information and meet other people going through the same thing.

  • £225 could pay for 1 day of research. That's another day of progress. A day closer to breakthroughs. And a day closer to a world where everyone with breast cancer lives, and lives well.

  • £270 could keep the Breast Cancer Now Tissue Bank open for 4 hours. It's full of samples of breast cancer tissue and it's a crucial resource for researchers. Using real tissue, they can make breakthroughs faster and find new ways to prevent and treat breast cancer, to stop the disease from taking lives.

  • £300 could help 10 people affected by breast cancer get vital answers by calling the free helpline. No question is too big or too small, and all calls are answered by breast care nurses and trained staff.
